The Hybrid Approach: Hardware Meets Firmware
Most IoT tutorials focus exclusively on the software stack. However, when deploying sensors in harsh garage, workshop, or outdoor environments, the mechanical enclosure and power conditioning are just as critical as the code.
1. Designing the Enclosure
I used CAD to model a snap-fit IP65-rated enclosure with built-in thermal ventilation baffles that protect the internal sensors while maintaining rapid air exchange.

2. Power and Failsafes
By incorporating transient voltage suppression and decoupling capacitors right at the power input, the node operates cleanly even in electrically noisy shop environments with heavy motor starts.
